Amphawa Floating Marketตลาดน้ำอัมพวา

Samut Songkhram · Weekend floating market with shops along both sides of a canal

Amphawa is a weekend market in Samut Songkhram, with wooden houses and shops along both sides of a canal. From the arched bridge, look down at food boats moored by the water and the two market streets, then cross to continue to shops on the other side.

Have grilled seafood, then try oliang iced coffee or coconut ice cream for an evening by the canal. Firefly boat trips after sunset are a separate activity from walking around the market. Whether wild fireflies are visible depends on the natural conditions that day.

What can you see?

A market between wooden houses and an arched bridge

Wooden houses and shops line both sides of the canal, connected by an arched bridge. From the bridge, you can see the moored food boats and steps down to the water.

On one waterside lane, browse shop displays up close; cross the bridge to continue to restaurants and stalls on the opposite side. Unlike an indoor market with all its aisles inside a building, this market spreads out along the canal and lanes.

Seafood grilled on boats and market snacks

Choose grilled seafood from a boat moored by the water, then eat near the steps along the canal. Thai coffee, seasonal fruit and coconut ice cream are also among the market treats.

After a meal, browse shops selling textiles, wooden toys and jewellery. Food boats moored in front of the old wooden shophouses are part of Amphawa’s waterside market scene.

The weekend market and firefly boat trips

The market is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. You can still see the canal and wooden houses on weekdays, but the weekend’s food boats and street stalls are not set up in the same way.

If you want to take a firefly boat trip after sunset, check the departure point, route, fare and return time separately. Fireflies are wild animals, so seeing them is not guaranteed just because you take a boat.
