A jungle park in Dong Phu Wuan forest
Ubon Ratchathani Zoo is a jungle-park-style zoo that retains the trees and vegetation of Dong Phu Wuan National Forest among its animal exhibits. Rather than viewing one enclosure after another, you move between areas within a connected forest setting.
The zoo preserved trees and vegetation and placed viewing areas among them. Following forest paths from one area to the next is part of the jungle-park experience.
Giraffes, ostriches and Kaki the pygmy hippo
A 2025 government feature highlighted giraffes, ostriches and Kaki the pygmy hippopotamus as animals at Ubon Zoo. Kaki also appeared in an animal-themed display for a local festival marking the zoo’s 12th anniversary, making the hippo one of the zoo’s familiar faces.
Daytime forest visit and limited night events are different
Ubon Zoo has also held a Glowing Candle display linked to the local candle festival. In 2025, an event combined animal designs with the candle festival, with night-time animal viewing available only on selected dates. Past event photos do not mean the zoo is open for animal viewing every night.
General daytime ticket sales are listed as 08:30–16:00, with the last tram at 16:15. The 2025 festival night viewing was limited to certain dates and should not be treated as regular night opening hours. Foreign-visitor admission and the internal tram are separate charges.
