Time beside the sea

Time beside a curved bay

Kata is a compact bay south of Karon. Walk along the sand with friends or your partner and enjoy the curve of the coast and the sea. It suits a slow day near your accommodation, with time for a sea view and a meal.

A relaxed day between beach and restaurants

Hotels, restaurants, bars and souvenir shops surround Kata Yai. Rest at the beach, go out for food and browse nearby shops. Kata Noi to the south is a separate beach, so make clear whether you mean Kata Beach or Kata Noi Beach when meeting friends or arranging a car.

Swimming, waves and local conditions

Keep away from surfing and water sports areas when swimming. Follow the day’s flags and local instructions about where entering the sea is permitted.

Do not swim while red flags are flying. Read the marine forecast before leaving and follow local swimming instructions after arrival. Waves and weather may delay or cancel boat trips, so ask about bad-weather conditions when booking.

Frequently asked questions

Are Kata and Kata Noi the same place?

No. Kata Beach, also called Kata Yai, and Kata Noi are separate. Kata Noi lies south of Kata Yai. Give your accommodation address and specify Kata Beach or Kata Noi Beach when arranging a car.

Can I visit Kata as well as Karon?

Yes. Kata is south of Karon, so you can visit both. They are not one continuous sandy beach; allow time to travel between them. Search separately for Karon Beach and Kata Beach.

Can I enter the water when there is a red flag?

No. A red flag means swimming is prohibited. Even if the sea looks calm, stay out of the water and spend your time on the shore.
