Passengers must also wear helmets · fine of up to 2,000 baht for noncompliance
Motorcycle taxi passengers must wear a helmet even for a short trip. Section 122 of Thailand's Road Traffic Act requires both the driver and passenger to wear helmets, with a fine of up to 2,000 baht for noncompliance. Whether using a stand or an app, ask the driver for a helmet and fasten the chin strap before riding.
A driver carrying a passenger without a helmet can face twice the maximum penalty, up to 4,000 baht. This does not mean the driver pays the passenger's fine instead. The 2,000-baht and 4,000-baht amounts are legal maximums, not fixed fines applied in every case.
The Thai Government announced stronger helmet enforcement from 1 June 2025. If no helmet is available or you cannot wear one properly, choose another vehicle. A taxi or urban rail is also more comfortable in rain or when luggage makes it difficult to sit securely.

Are GrabBike and delivery services the same?
No. Choose GrabBike (Win), the passenger service, and distinguish it from delivery services.
Can I pay for a motorcycle taxi by card?
GrabBike’s official guidance lists cash, credit cards and debit cards. Roadside motorcycle-taxi stands may accept different payment methods, so agree on payment separately when using one.
When should I check the fare?
Check before boarding. For app requests, review the displayed fare and terms; at a local stand, confirm the fare for your destination.
Is GrabBike available in every Thai city?
Check both the areas listed in the official FAQ and those currently available in the app. Nationwide availability is not guaranteed.
Can motorcycle taxi passengers be fined for not wearing a helmet?
Yes. Passengers must wear a helmet, and failing to do so can incur a fine of up to 2,000 baht. A driver carrying a passenger without a helmet faces twice the maximum penalty, up to 4,000 baht. These are legal maximums, not fixed enforcement amounts. Ask for a helmet and fasten the chin strap before riding.
