Air India Express: Reporting Damaged, Delayed or Missing Baggage

How to file a baggage report (PIR) with Air India Express at the arrival airport, what documents to keep, and how the 21-day rule works.

If your checked baggage is damaged, delayed or does not arrive, report it to the Baggage Desk before you leave the arrival airport and file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) with supporting documents.

File the PIR before leaving the airport

Report damaged, delayed or missing checked baggage to the Baggage Desk before you leave the arrival airport. Submit the Property Irregularity Report (PIR) along with supporting documents. This follows the airline's international conditions of carriage, section X(g)(xvii).

Documents to keep

Keep your baggage tag, a copy of the PIR report, your boarding pass, and receipts for essential purchases. These support both the airline report and any later insurance claim. The airline report and the insurance approval are separate processes — filing with the carrier does not automatically start an insurance claim.

The 21-day rule and contact

Baggage not found within 21 days is treated as lost. Note: this 21-day period defines when baggage counts as lost — it is not the deadline for filing a written claim. For general queries, the Global Contact Centre is at +91 124 693 5600, but this is a remote centre, not a direct PIR line. File the PIR at the airport desk itself. Specific desk numbers, phone numbers and hours for Varanasi (VNS), Pune (PNQ) and Bangkok (BKK) are not confirmed on official channels.

My bag did not arrive on my Air India Express flight. What should I do first?

Go to the Baggage Desk before leaving the arrival airport and file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) with supporting documents. Do not leave the airport first and report later.

What documents should I keep?

Keep your baggage tag, a copy of the PIR, your boarding pass, and receipts for essential purchases. You will need these for the airline process and separately for any insurance claim.

My bag has been missing for 21 days. What happens now?

Baggage not found within 21 days is treated as lost. This 21-day period is the point at which baggage counts as lost — it is not the same as the deadline for filing a written claim, so check the applicable claim timelines separately.

Can I file the PIR by calling +91 124 693 5600?

The Global Contact Centre handles general queries and is not listed as a direct PIR line. File your arrival baggage report at the airport Baggage Desk with supporting documents.

Thai phrases to show airport staff

Choose the male or female form to match the speaker, then show the Thai sentence you need to the staff member or copy it to send.

Ask where to report baggage damage

After finding damage to your arriving bag, ask baggage staff where to report it and request a PIR.

My suitcase has been damaged. Where should I go to report the problem and request a PIR document?
