Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX): arrivals, departures and facilities

Text and commentary:

Read English guidance for Chiang Mai International Airport: arrivals, departures, facilities and retained official airport sources. Search the separate all-country records for airline counters and contacts.

First time at Chiang Mai Airport

At Chiang Mai Airport, check the Domestic and International signs before moving between facilities. If you order a car after arrival, make sure the pickup point shown in your app matches the designated place where you will meet it.

Use the map to find shops, medical rooms and prayer rooms. For the city, read the shuttle guidance for Door 12 of the international terminal or visit the Grab service centre on domestic Level 1. Self-check-in and self-service bag drop support different airlines.

Terminal and floor maps

Choose the terminal and floor. Red pins identify recorded facilities or landmarks; they do not create permission to enter an area. Facility codes on the map are different from boarding-gate numbers.

Use the mouse wheel to zoom and drag to move the map. On a touchscreen, pinch with two fingers. With a keyboard, use +/− to zoom, arrow keys to move and Home to reset.

Smoking areas: before and after departure immigration

Use designated smoking areas. Keep public areas, post-immigration departures and separate spaces inside lounges distinct.

Follow the on-site Smoking Area signs

Outdoor smoking place near Exit 9, Level 1

Visitor guidance near Exit 9 · confirm on site

Recent airport visitor guidance describes a separate outdoor smoking place near Exit 9 on Level 1. Building Exit 9 is different from international boarding Gate 9.

Look for it in the public area before departure immigration. There is no map pin for the smoking-room entrance, so follow Smoking Area signs or ask information staff. It is not directly accessible from the post-immigration area.

Leaving the airport for the city

  1. Collect your bags in your flight’s terminal and continue to the public arrivals area. For essentials, use the Mini Market in the domestic Level 1 arrivals area.
  2. Order Grab through the app and board at the designated pickup point. If you cannot locate it, visit the Grab service centre in the public area on Level 1 of the domestic terminal.
  3. Airport shuttles leave from Door 12 of the international terminal. Compare the A1, A2 and A3 routes and fares below with the location of your accommodation.

Checking in and dropping off bags

  1. Self-check-in kiosks and self-service bag-drop machines do different jobs. Check that your airline supports each service before using it.
  2. Machines are listed around airline counters and cafés in the domestic terminal, and near gates 8–9 in the international terminal. The departure information below gives their recorded locations and supported airlines.
  3. After dropping off your bags, recheck your gate on the day’s screens and boarding pass, then arrive at the boarding time given by your airline.

Find airport facilities

Choose a terminal, floor and facility type, or search a shop name. Facility numbers are map references; they do not identify boarding gates or tell you which controlled areas you may enter.
