Thailand tourist visa from India: single or multiple entry and e-Visa
For a tourist holiday on an Indian ordinary passport, first see whether the 30-day visa exemption effective from 15 September 2026 fits your trip. If a tourist visa is needed, decide whether you will enter Thailand once or several times. The guidance below uses the New Delhi Embassy’s official instructions for applications from India. Your location determines the responsible mission, so do not use these application rules automatically when applying abroad.
Single entry and multiple entries
The New Delhi Embassy’s current visa table lists a single-entry tourist visa valid for 3 months with a 60-day stay, and a multiple-entry tourist visa valid for 6 months with a 60-day stay for each entry. Six-month validity does not mean you can remain in Thailand for six months on one entry. Visa validity is the period in which the visa can be used; the admitted-until date records how long you may actually stay.
If you need more time after arrival, consult Thai immigration about the extension applicable to your permission. An extension needs a separate application and approval; submitting a request does not extend your stay by itself. This guide does not promise an extension period from a Korean mission’s checklist. Start with the admitted-until date in your passport and arrange any required procedure before it expires.
Single-entry tourist visa
Validity: 3 months / stay: 60 days
Multiple-entry tourist visa
Validity: 6 months / stay: 60 days per entry

Prepare documents for your passport and application location
Prepare a clear passport biodata page, a recent colour photograph, flight bookings and accommodation evidence. The tourist checklists linked by New Delhi require a passport valid for at least 6 months with two blank pages. Its September 2026 e-Visa FAQ specifies a colour photograph taken within the last 6 months, uploaded with the passport image as JPG/JPEG files no larger than 3 MB. Read the current application’s upload instructions as well.
For an application through a Thai mission in India, remain physically in India throughout processing and upload evidence of your current location. The September 2026 guidance gives a house agreement, Aadhaar card or monthly electricity bill as examples. Apply to the mission whose jurisdiction covers that location. Use documents that show your current address and check the requirements of the Thai mission handling your application.
Financial evidence must meet the requirements for your visa category and mission. The tourist checklists linked from the Embassy contain bank-attestation and six-month statement or balance conditions, but also retain older fees and processing instructions that conflict with the current visa page and September 2026 FAQ. Before submitting, obtain the current applicable financial checklist from your responsible mission rather than assuming those old figures are current. Visa bank documents are separate from any funds evidence requested at immigration.
Prepare confirmed flights into and out of Thailand and accommodation evidence bearing your name, address and contact details. Multiple-entry applicants should also prepare their plans for later trips. A stay with a Thai relative or friend needs an invitation and Thai identification; a foreign host’s supporting passport, visa and work-permit documents are specified in the linked checklist. Read the current mission’s document request so that an invitation is accompanied by the required host evidence.
Read every request shown in the actual e-Visa application and respond to further document requests after submission. A completed upload does not establish approval, and additional documents or an interview may be requested. The checklists state that a visa itself does not guarantee admission: Thai immigration decides entry under Thai law.
From online application to saving the approval
At thaievisa.go.th, create an account, select your nationality, actual current location, ordinary passport and tourism purpose, and fill in the application. For this e-Visa application, New Delhi’s September 2026 common-mistakes guide says to copy the Indian passport’s given name and surname exactly and leave the middle-name field blank. It warns that applications with that field filled in will be cancelled. Compare any automatically retrieved details with your passport before continuing.
Upload the requested documents, complete the responsible mission’s payment procedure and press Submit. New Delhi’s September 2026 FAQ specifies bank transfer or a cash deposit at DBS Bank, followed by sending the payment slip and Payment Info Summary as instructed; cash is not accepted at the Embassy. This is a New Delhi payment procedure, and other Indian consulates have their own instructions. Visa fees are non-refundable. The current visa page and older linked checklists show different fee amounts, so confirm the applicable amount with the mission before paying.
Follow the status and email for any requests for more documents. New Delhi’s September 2026 FAQ estimates approximately 14 working days from receipt of the visa fee, which is an estimate rather than a guaranteed issue date. Once approved, print the e-Visa and carry it for airline check-in and Thai immigration: that FAQ states that electronic copies on phones or other devices are not accepted. Keep a saved copy too, but do not rely on a phone display in place of the required printout.
A tourist visa does not replace TDAC
Even after receiving a tourist visa, complete the TDAC separately unless an official exemption applies. Submit through the official website within the three-day window including arrival day and save the resulting document on your phone.
At the airport, keep your passport and visa confirmation available. After immigration, read the actual permission-to-stay expiry in your passport. Plan departure around that permission, rather than the visa’s validity date.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a tourist visa?
A tourist visa is not required if your trip on an Indian ordinary passport meets the up-to-30-day visa-exemption conditions effective from 15 September 2026. If your plans do require a tourist visa, select the appropriate entry category and apply through the mission responsible for your current location.
Does multiple-entry validity mean I can stay for that entire period?
No. New Delhi lists 6 months of visa validity for a multiple-entry tourist visa, with a 60-day stay per entry. Those are different periods. After immigration, use the actual admitted-until date in your passport to plan departure.
What is the tourist visa fee?
Confirm the current amount with your responsible mission before paying. The New Delhi visa page and the older tourist checklists linked from it display conflicting fee amounts; this guide does not treat the old checklist amount as a confirmed current fee. New Delhi’s September 2026 FAQ says visa fees are non-refundable, and other consulates may use different payment procedures.
Can I travel as soon as I submit the application?
No. Submission is not approval. Monitor the application and email, answer document requests, and obtain the approved e-Visa before relying on it for travel. New Delhi’s September 2026 estimate is approximately 14 working days from fee receipt, with no guaranteed issue date. Print the approval: the same FAQ requires a printout at airline check-in and Thai immigration and does not accept a phone or other electronic display.
