THAILAND ENTRY GUIDE

Thailand Tourist Visa: Single Entry, Multiple Entry and e-Visa

You do not need to start by applying for a tourist visa if your vacation on a U.S. ordinary passport qualifies for visa exemption. Compare your trip length with the exemption first. If you need a tourist visa, consider how many times you plan to enter. The document and fee examples below are specifically from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Los Angeles; travelers in other jurisdictions must follow their own Thai mission.

Single entry and multiple entry

Single and multiple entry differ in the number of visits and the period in which the visa can be used. The Los Angeles tourism and leisure guidance states single entry: three months of visa validity; multiple entry: six months, with up to 60 days per entry. Six-month validity does not mean you can stay six uninterrupted months.

Los Angeles also describes the possibility of an additional 30-day extension, bringing a stay to no more than 90 days from entry. Contact Thai Immigration to apply: an extension requires approval and is not granted merely because you submit a request. Read the actual permission recorded in your passport and arrange any necessary extension before it expires.

Applicants and supporting documents

For the Los Angeles consular jurisdiction, upload a clear passport biodata page, a photograph taken within six months, current-location evidence such as a driver’s license, bank statement or proof of stay, a named flight itinerary into and out of Thailand and accommodation evidence. The passport must be valid for at least six months from travel. Upload large, clear JPEG or PDF files no bigger than 3 MB.

The Los Angeles tourism and leisure page asks for the last three months of savings or checking statements, with an ending balance of at least $700 per person or $2,000 per family, showing the applicant’s name and date. A family or joint statement also needs proof of relationship, such as a birth or marriage certificate. These are visa-application bank documents, separate from cash evidence at entry. Older Los Angeles tourist and METV pages display different financial lists; use the current category and the documents requested for your application, and ask the consulate if those differ.

Additional documents apply to non-U.S. citizens and minors under 20. Non-U.S. citizens provide the permanent resident card or valid U.S. visa and applicable employment or student evidence; an employment letter must be hand-signed by HR or a manager, rather than a pay stub, job offer or acceptance letter. Self-employed applicants provide business registration, license or personal/business tax returns showing income; students provide full-time status evidence (I-20). For minors, the page lists a birth certificate, parents’ marriage certificate or notarized sole-custody order, and both parents’ or guardians’ passports or ID. A minor traveling alone needs notarized consent from both parents or guardians; when traveling with one parent, the other parent must provide consent.

The flight itinerary must show the applicant’s name, dates, airports and flight number. Accommodation evidence can include bookings or an invitation from family or friends in Thailand. Supporting materials issued outside Thailand and the United States need certified English translations with the consular or Ministry of Foreign Affairs notarization specified by Los Angeles. Read the actual form’s requests instead of replacing them with another country’s document list.

Consular officers may ask for more documents or reject an application. Uploading documents is not approval, and applying outside the consulate’s jurisdiction is listed as a reason for refusal. Use the mission responsible for your residence; this Los Angeles example does not establish one document list for all four U.S. missions.

From the online application to your approval document

Create your account at thaievisa.go.th and choose the actual nationality, location, passport type and tourism purpose. If passport reading fills the form automatically, compare first, middle and last names and the passport details against your document.

Upload the required documents, complete the fee procedure and submit the application. Los Angeles lists $40 for single entry and $200 for multiple entry; these fees apply to Los Angeles applications; follow the fee displayed by your responsible mission. Visa fees are nonrefundable, so check the passport type and all entries before payment and submission.

After submission, monitor the dashboard and email and respond to requests for additional documents. Save the approved e-Visa confirmation and prepare a printed copy for airline and immigration checks. The Los Angeles tourism and leisure page says processing typically takes about 15 business days; its older pages describe a minimum of 15 business days. The current page recommends applying at least 30 days before departure, generally no more than 90 days ahead because many visas run from issue. A status update after additional documents may take 3–5 business days. These are planning instructions, not a promised issue date.

You still need TDAC with a tourist visa

Even after your tourist visa is approved, complete TDAC separately. Submit it on the official site within the three days before arrival, including the arrival date, and save the completed document to your phone.

At the airport, keep your passport and visa confirmation ready. After passport control, read the actual permitted-stay expiration date. Your departure must fit the stay granted at entry, rather than simply the date the visa itself stops being valid.

Frequently asked questions

Do U.S. citizens need a Thai tourist visa?

If your U.S. ordinary passport vacation meets the visa exemption conditions, a separate tourist visa is unnecessary. For an itinerary needing a visa, choose the category that matches your passport, purpose and stay conditions.

Does a multiple-entry visa let me stay six months at once?

No. The six months in Los Angeles METV guidance is the period in which the visa can be used. Its stated stay is no more than 60 days per entry, rather than six uninterrupted months. Plan departure using the permission recorded after immigration.

What are the tourist visa fees for U.S. applicants?

The Los Angeles tourist visa page lists $40 for single entry and $200 for multiple entry. The fees are nonrefundable; confirm the fee shown by your responsible mission and the actual e-Visa application before paying. Follow the fee displayed for your actual application and responsible mission.

Can I travel as soon as I submit the application?

Submission is not visa approval. Read your dashboard and email and wait for the approval document if your trip needs a visa. Additional-document requests can extend the process, and a published processing period does not guarantee a particular issue date.
