Prepare a travel insurance claim

Check your policy and insurer’s document instructions before submitting.

The Allianz US process below is an example. Coverage varies by plan and state.

Prepare your evidence

Gather policy documents, itinerary or invoices, incident evidence and expense receipts. Required documents vary by claim type; do not assume a baggage report is always mandatory.

Describe the claim

Explain who, what, when and where. Have purchase and policy dates, email, incident type and travel dates ready. Record expenses and any refunds or credits. Upload supporting evidence and review before submitting.

Keep the claim number

Keep your claim number. Use the official existing-claim page to check status or add documents. The insurer may request more evidence; submitting does not guarantee payment.

Baggage delay examples

The official checklist gives typical examples, not every document required for every case; follow your policy. For baggage delay, prepare the carrier’s delay report or related evidence and receipts for essential purchases caused by the delay.

Travel delay examples

Prepare delay evidence, such as a supplier’s document or an applicable incident report, itemised expense receipts and journey details showing travellers, costs and payments.

Baggage loss or damage examples

Claim promptly with the carrier and keep its decision or payment outcome. Secondary coverage concerns remaining eligible losses. Examples include an applicable authority’s incident report, the full itinerary and an itemised value list; receipts may be requested.

Are these instructions for every insurer?

No. Follow your own policy and insurer’s instructions.

Does filing guarantee compensation?

No. The insurer assesses coverage and evidence. Airline assistance and insurance claims are separate.
